SHIPWRECKED.

we have tried to work more severely on the tectonic of the compositions as well as the character of the pieces by which the whole composition is made. we drew at an early stage how we came to the shipwreck concept - an explosion of pieces where each of which identifies a certain programmatic element. we have returned to this idea, trying to solidify and characterize each portion according to 1. the thematic allusion and 2. the functionality.

the composition bears the hulking image of a wrecked vessel.

hard + soft-scapes ::
we think that it would be interesting to create the project with soft and hard-scapes, also because at the location of a shipwreck, the driftwood as well as the great timbers of the hull exist, which have interactions that can perhaps be echoed here.

four regions ::
1. the sleeping pavilions, the white sails are in reference both to the pavilions we have seen in photos [photo] as well as the sails on the pirate-themed boats we've observed.

2. the roped course, these ropes reference the more horizontal uses of docking boats as well as the more vertical uses of holding sails and masts.

3. the drifting garden, an arrangement of layers of life rings, buoys from boats and potted plants create an extensive, on-water garden that drifts with a small buffer, allowed by the cables that anchor them to a static structure.

4. the crow's nest tower, the climax of our composition, references the whimsical industrial attitude of a nearby boat[photo] using similar methods of construction and materials, creating a stair-scape that leads into the garden as well as the roped course, and culminating in a watch tower.

as far as the contact between the existing quai and the composition, we suggest a relatively light approach, making a small gestural cut into the existing, as well as manipulating the stair arrangement to the SE of the site. a part of the composition will also "crash-land" onto the tiles. we believe the gesture will be enough to make the project's presence significant - if bigger, perhaps the narcissism will be somewhat overboard.
